The idea is simple. What has changed in my garage since I first posted here?
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
My first car. It’s a boring reliable car in a fun color.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Well, that brings us to the end of this long list. How much has changed in your garage since you first posted here?

A lot.... I tried to right out the time line but I honestly can’t remember everything....
When I started here I drove my mom’s 2010 Elantra, which went to my sister after I got my 96 Golf. Then I got a 97 Jetta, then trickjos’s 93 saturn, then I sold the Jetta and bought my 86 Cabriolet same day, then I bought my 1981 Rabbit, then that 2009 or whatever focus, then sold the focus, bought the 91 Jetta turbodeisel, then sold the Saturn, sold the turbodiesel, bought my 1987 Audi 4000s, I think that’s when I bought my 95 Jetta, then got a Miata, then traded Miata for the 01 Golf, traded that for the Mustang, here we are. I think that’s it... currently have 95 jetta, 96 golf, 98 stang, 86 cabby, 87 audi, 81 rabbit
Couple mopeds in there, honestly cannot remember.

Just because you’re jealous my list is easier to read than yours doesn’t make it trolling.

From 2010 Elantra to multiple broken VWs in record time! That’s pretty impressive just how much you must like pain ;)
I think the Mustang was one of the better trades I’ve heard of recently. Maybe it will make you give up your crappy Euro econobox ways in favor of the V8? Naw, old VWs are great. . . . when they work.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 11:01 |

No, the mustang is a rusted out piece of shit. Whatever. I’ve got a guy coming to pick it up later today apparently.
The VWs are, always have been, and always will be superior to any domestic automobile.

But so was the VW? Still think it was a good trade though I suspected you would flip it.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 11:24 |

So you replaced your i3 with a nearly identical one? Why?
Seems you have a thing for repeating cars.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 11:24 |

I love how the red top looks on the red Miata. That is a nice garage (except for the V6 Mustang, hehe)
![]() 11/13/2020 at 11:27 |

Disagree. The V6 mustang was the first of the new engines with 305hp which after my 02 Eclipse was a rocket. It was my first manual. It was a gorgeous red and base interior so no frills. It's an oppo car through and though!
![]() 11/13/2020 at 11:35 |

I was just joshing you. I’m more of a fan of the four cylinder Mustangs than the V6s but they are good cars.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 11:36 |

It would seem so. I replaced the 550 with the 35 because that particular 550 was a fucking basket case that I was tired of fixing
, and there wasn’t anything else out that that I liked as much, that drove as well, that was as safe for hauling a new kiddo, that I could afford. Replaced the i3 because the first one was totaled in a minor accident.

Lol I know, this was before the ecoboost existed though. They neutered the v6 when the made that

I don’t think that Mk4 was actually rusty, just abused. Floor holes from driving aired out on the highway and such. Not really a flip if I sell it at a loss just to fund better exploits, whatever. I need less project cars.

I really like the i3. They’ve depreciated enough to make good affordable dailies with some quirky charm too.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 12:37 |
|
Well they had to make room for the turbo 4 pot I guess.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 12:56 |
|
Obviously I liked it enough to buy it twice. I could go on and on (and have) about all the reasons why. In 3 1/3 years, I’ve used just over 7 gallons of gas.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:01 |

Not a whole lot has changed in my lineup during my time here.
1.) My first “fun” car. 2008 Honda Civic Si Coupe. Owned 2013-2017
2.) My current car. 2017 VW GTI. Sept 2017 to present
And actually I didn’t start publishing on Oppo till I had this car. Before that I just browsed and occasionally commented here and FP with a different username.
Anywho, don’t think I’ll be changing anything up soon. I keep almost buying Miata’s, so maybe that will happen on the other side.

That’s incredible! I take it you almost never use the range extender? I really like range extender EVs with smaller battery capacities as you have the 5% of trips covered with the ease and convenience of plug in EVs.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:04 |

The GTIs are good! I’m not a huge fan of that era of Honda and I hate their interiors from that time. Not ridden in an Si coupe but my friend’s base coupe is pretty meh and I don’t like how it drives.
I was a semi-lurker for a short amount of time under a burner by the same name.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:05 |
|
Most of what I’ve burned was just through fucking around with reprogramming the dash buttons and changing the settings, most of the rest from the automatic cycling it’ll do if you don’t use it enough.
Also, forgot to add previously-- the E60s couldn’t have been more different-- the LCI was a big change, the TT I6 vs the V8 and weight, active suspension... They felt like totally different cars.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:07 |
|
Have you ever filled it up? Probably needs some gas stabilizer in there.
Ah, you went high trim for the replacement with some fancy suspension. Did the V8 drive heavier?
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:25 |
|
Here’s what I wrote on the first day:
Yeah. Obviously they sold like 99.8% with autos, so that’s where the
effort went. In the whole hour or so I’ve driven the 35, it’s got a
completely different character from the 50, and the transmission seems
way snappier. Not at all slow and dumb like the 50's. It has the flappy
paddles, and they actually seem to work pretty well. The manual 5ers I
drove seemed really... Not well thought out. The ratios were weird, the
final drive too short, and just ill-suited for the car in general.
The 550 was super heavy, super solid. The 35 felt so much lighter.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:43 |
|
The Si was a good car for me at the time. I wished it was a four door but the coupe alright. In traditional Honda fashion, it didn’t give me much trouble besides the clear coat failing in some areas. But it wore on me which led to getting the GTI and not driving the Si for another 100k.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:48 |
|
So the V8 drove lighter? Must have been the fancy adaptive suspension.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:50 |
|
It still amazes me that Honda managed to get clearcoat so wrong for so long.
That coupe at least had decent rear seat legroom. Not two door Golf levels, but pretty good for a swoopy coupe.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 13:55 |
|
No, the opposite. The 550 was heavy and solid. The 35 was light, and cornered completely differently, flatter and faster.
![]() 11/13/2020 at 14:43 |
|
So which one did you have first?
![]() 11/13/2020 at 15:44 |

The 550.

Boring and reliable go well together, because most quirky cars have some serious... quirks...
There’s mine... no real surprises there.

I still haven't watched your video review of it. I should do that.

The 2010 Lancer GTS has been a constant.
In 2013, I got my first Porschelump 944—a 1983 one. Then it crashed. Then I got a replacement shell, I thought, to put the drivetrain into. No one wanted to work on that. THEN I got the real Porschelump 2.0 from someone who commented on my first front-page article, which was about the original Porschelump’s crash —a 1984 944. It ran for five years without me ever popping open the engine. It just now needs a clutch and a head gasket.
Back in 2017, I got the 1971 Volkswagen 411. No, it doesn’t run well yet.

Is that a slantback or a squareback? I love Type 4s. You never see them on the road at all.
The Lancer has always struck me as a great fun daily. As far as I know it hasn’t let you down.
The Porschelumps are iconic. 944s are great and have really aged well.
BTW are you on the Hyphen?

Yes, but I’m not very active—just too much to do. I’ll probably hop on as I do now: whenever I have some time to kill.
The squareback-type names were all Type 3. I don’t know of any for the Type 4 except “Nasenbär,” which means coati—because that’s a funny-looking animal, too. Mine’s the weird sedan with the angled rear window. It’s a delight. A f ormer Down on the Street feature , too!

I understand. When you write about cars for a living, writing about cars for free isn’t as attractive. We still love to see you come around even if it’s just to lurk or comment.
Okay, sorry, got the numbers confused there a second. I’ve never actually seen a slantback. They are pretty distinctive designs.
![]() 11/15/2020 at 16:08 |

Honestly, I’ve been trying to wrap up a few other projects and make sure things are getting archived off of here. I know they said “end of month,” but I don’t trust these herbs one bit to hold up their end of the deal. I’m going to lurk and post Puffalumps regardless, ha.
I didn’t realize the Fastback was also called the Slantback! The first Lemons car I raced was a Fastback with a Type 4 engine swap. We dressed it up as a Puffalump.

You know you don’t have to credit comment imag es, right?
That puffalump car is amazing! So many puffs!

Oh, I know. I’ve just been having fun with those.
I brought my whole collection at the time to roll through BS Inspections. We won Organizer’s Choice for being so ridiculous with it, heh.
